Madrid, September 20, 2021 – On October 1, the Final Phase of the university debate league (LEDU), of which DigitalES is a proud partner, will kick off. Sixteen of our partners will participate as mentors to each of the finalists. In addition, our general manager, Víctor Calvo-Sotelo, will be a member of the jury.
The final will take place from October 1 to 3 at the Teatro Mira in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid). The mission of the mentors will be to advise the university students in the research and planning of their arguments during the preparation of this edition’s question: Is Spain preparing for a socially, environmentally and economically sustainable digitalization?
Capgemini Engineering, Deloitte, Ericsson, Everis NTT Data, EY, Globant, Huawei, Interxion, Lexmark, Mastercard, NAE, Nokia, Smurfit Kappa, Telefónica, VMware and ZTE are the companies that will make their experts available to the speakers.
“The technology and digital industry in Spain employs professionals who are absolutely committed to helping new generations learn what their work consists of, what projects are being developed in our country and how digitalization can help create a better world. They do a magnificent job as role-models, promoting STEM vocations, values and knowledge that are much needed in our country,” says Javier Miranda, head of the Training and Employment Area of DigitalES.
“This is a unique opportunity for participants that no other debating competition enjoys. It is a luxury for the speakers to have a mentor, a leading professional in the subject matter of the question, to guide them, delve into the question and assess their thesis or evidence before debating from their professional experience. This exceptional input will contribute significantly to the work of the teams. It will undoubtedly improve the quality of the debates and of the League itself. We are very grateful to DigitalES for their involvement,” says Angel Domingo, technical director of LEDU.
Objective: to end the deficit of ICT professionals
DigitalES performs an intensive task of supporting the digital training of citizens, from schooling to university, vocational training and dual vocational training, through business retraining programs or public courses for the unemployed.
As a founding member of the Sectorial Joint Commission, DigitalES collaborates with SEPE and FUNDAE in the design or modernization of different vocational training programs. It is also working with regional governments such as Castilla-La Mancha and has promoted Dual Vocational Training projects in Aragon, Catalonia and Madrid.
In parallel, DigitalES carries out different actions to promote STEM vocations, the involvement of teachers and the creation of a network of career counselors. The technology employers’ association, chaired by Eduardo Serra, also monitors the regulatory environment in order to promote a framework that encourages training with intensive use of new technologies.
At present, according to DigitalES estimates, the shortage of technology specialists in Spain is between 70,000 and 75,000 positions. In less than twelve months, that number will be well over 100,000 unfilled positions.
According to the World Economic Forum, by 2022, more than 42% of jobs will require new skills such as artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, design thinking, problem solving or critical thinking.
